Nawaz-Shehbaz meet decide Pakistan Army chief’s appointment

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with his elder brother, three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in London and discussed issues surrounding the appointment of the new Pakistan Army Chief.

According to reports in Pakistani media, the Nawaz-Shehbaz meeting decided that the appointment would be made on merit, with the senior-most general appointed as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

The current COAS, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, will step down later this month. General Bajwa has begun farewell visits to various formations of the Pakistan Army, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
