Pakistan PM Shehbaz pledged to complete the IMF program

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged on Monday to complete the current International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.

On the sidelines of the COP 27 summit, the Premier met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Egypt on Monday.

The Prime Minister stated that the COVID-19 pandemic, global recession, and recent flash floods have slowed Pakistan’s economic recovery. He stated that “we had revised our budget estimates for immediate assistance and rehabilitation of flood victims.”

Recognizing the IMF’s cooperation, the Prime Minister stated his intention to complete the most recent IMF program. He hoped that the COP27 summit would be a watershed moment in the fight for climate justice.
